Pastol ng Bayan Children’s Choir

EST. 2013

History

Back in 2013, the choir was formed, with the members coming from the original children’s choir that served the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass under their former musical director, Ms. Timmy Ferrer, in which she decided to turn over the directorship to the current musical director, Bro. Jhei Baylon. Since then, the Pastol ng Bayan Children’s Choir has served the parish of St. John Bosco, by providing music for the liturgy and beyond, for over a decade. The choir had been open to musically inclined children, between the ages of 6 to 16. Once reaching the non-children’s choir age limit, they become part of the PNBCC Alumni. In 2019, the establishment of the PASTOL NG BAYAN MUSIC was solidified, collectively having 3 groups: the Children’s Choir, the Parents’ Ensemble and the Alumni.

Through the course of its existence, the PNBCC has evolved, not only as a choir, but as a small community, built around families that are bonded by their dedication to serve the Lord through the teachings of St. John Bosco. With its current roster of 18 active singers, a multitude of alumni, and a community of families, the PNBCC has been actively spreading the light of Don Bosco through their music, not only in the Parish, but in other places as well. In 2016, the choir got its first opportunity to compete by joining Westgate Alabang’s “ The Voice of the Village Caroling Competition”, which they won 2nd place. In 2017, the choir joined the National Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Children’s choir category, where they represented the province of Laguna in the Regional Finals. In 2018, the choir ranked 4th in DZMM Teleradyo’s “Dr. Love Radio Show Christmas Choral Competition”. The choir has also publicly performed in VistaMall Sta. Rosa, Solenad 2 in Nuvali, and at the Enchanted Kingdom events tent, where they sang alongside the world-famous Loboc Children’s Choir (2019) during our Parish’s event Vocè Celestè. The choir is also active in providing liturgical music to parish related events, such as Feast days, Holy Week events, 1st Holy Communions, Confirmations, non-liturgical events, Weddings, Requiem masses, as well as private singing engagements, concerts and gigs.

Guiding Principles

Vision

Pastol ng Bayan Music (PnBM) is a Filipino Catholic community of singers, instrumentalists and their families, committed to provide proper music for the liturgical, social and spiritual services of the St. John Bosco Parish and Center for Young Workers, especially during the 10:30AM Sunday Mass.

Mission

To create a "Service-Oriented" environment, which promotes the children and the youth as an integral part of the Basic Ecclesiastical community, using Music as a Universal language towards the spiritual, moral and emotional development of its members and families, thus creating a sustainable Bosconian culture within the Parish and its surrounding Society with the principle of the Three D's:

  • Discipline - the aspect of being able to correct and strengthen the proper basics of musicianship thru proper training and activities;
  • Diligence - the aspect of careful and persistent attitude towards service and developing one's musicianship and attitude;
  • Determination - the aspect that builds character; being able to assert effort and make justifiable decisions as musicians, becoming better role models for others to follow.
